Gempa bumi Sumatera: Angka kematian dijangka berganda

PADANG: Jumlah kematian akibat gempa bumi di sini dijangka meningkat dua kali ganda berikutan lebih daripada 600 penduduk kampung yang kebanyakannya menghadiri satu upacara perkahwinan dikhuatiri telah tertimbus selepas kejadian runtuhan lumpur di kawasan pergunungan.

Menurut pihak berkuasa dan seorang jurugambar media yang membuat liputan di tempat kejadian, tidak ada apa-apa yang tinggal di empat perkampungan yang terletak di lereng bukit Padang Pariman selepas gempa bumi yang melanda barat Sumatera, tiga hari lepas.

Beratus-ratus doktor, jururawat, pasukan mencari dan menyelamat serta krew pembersihan dari seluruh dunia tiba di lapangan terbang yang berhampiran pada Sabtu.

Mereka turut membawa makanan, khemah, ubat-ubatan, air bersih, penjana kuasa dan pelbagai lagi peralatan yang diperlukan untuk merawat mangsa gempa.

Bagaimanapun, bekalan elektrik yang terputus, kekurangan bahan api dan telekommunikasi menyukarkan lagi keadaan.

Lebih 400 orang yang menghadiri upacara perkahwinan di Kampung Pulau Aiya pada Rabu lepas telah tertimbus akibat malapetaka itu. “Mangsa-mangsa kejadian tertimbus 30 meter ke dalam tanah. Sebuah masjid yang tingginya melebihi 20 meter juga hilang dalam kejadian itu,” kata ketua pusat krisis Kementerian Kesihatan Indonesia, Rustam Pakaya.

Menurutnya, hanya 26 mayat berjaya ditarik keluar dari kawasan tanah runtuh berhampiran Lubuk Lawe dan Jumena.

Mayat 618 orang lagi masih tertimbus jauh di dalam tanah.

Kerajaan Indonesia terpaksa bekerjasama dengan pihak luar untuk membantu penduduk di kawasan itu kerana jalan yang menghala ke kawasan tersebut telah rosak teruk. AP
