AN abused Indonesian maid has died without regaining consciousness, less than a week after she was rescued by police.

Mautik Hai, 36, from Surabaya, had multiple injuries on hre body and did not respond to antibiotics and drugs administered to her at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang. She died at 10am Monday.

She had been scheduled to undergo surgery but was not fit enough for it, hospital director Dr Ghazali Hasni Md Hassan.

Mautik was also malnoursihed and dehydrated.

She was found in the toilet of a house in Taman Sentosa, Klang last Tuesday following a tip-off. It is believed she had been locked in the toilet for two days.

A couple, believed to be her employers, have been arrested and remanded for investigations.

Dr Ghazali added that the victim was treated by a group of medical specialists including, orthopaedic, anaesthetic and surgical team.

District police chief Asst Comm Mohamad Mat Yusop said the case had been reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Police are looking for three more people to help in investigations.

It is learnt that police were looking for the male employer’s mother, who also stayed in the same house, the informer as well as Mautik’s former employer.

A 29-year-old woman was arrested on the same day Mautik was found and her husband surrendered to police the next day.

Mautik is believed to have been working at the house for the past two months.

Mautik did not have any valid travel documents when she was rescued.
