A farmer whose goat gave birth to a two-headed kid on Wednesday is distressed as he believes that too much fuss and attention showered on the animal may have caused the abnormal kid to die three days later.
Mohd Fariz Zakaria, 30, said flocks of visitors from his village as well as those from outside the vicinity came, touched and some even posed for photographs with the kid, which was fragile and weak.
“The kid could hardly suckle its mother’s milk as its heads were too heavy for it to stand up and I had to bottle-feed it a few times a day,” he said.
Mohd Fariz said he felt sad especially since he helped “deliver” the kid which was born at about 3pm on Wednesday.
“I was busy at my goat shed and noticed my Saanen diary goat, Janggut, struggling to give birth.
“When I saw that the kid was breeched, I quickly helped pulled it out. At first I didn’t notice there were two heads as it was still wet and sticky,” he said.
He said apart from the abnormal two heads and faces, the rest of the kid’s body was normal.
Mohd Fariz said he and his wife Latihah Yusof, 28, were overjoyed to see such a phenomenon which was the first since they ventured into cattle and goat breeding at their farm at Kampung Pertama in Permatang Pauh here five years ago.
“We immediately warmed up to the poor little thing. We took extra care as it was so fragile,” Mohd Fariz said.
He said this was Janggut’s third delivery.
“Each time, Janggut would deliver two or three kids. This time she delivered a kid with two heads. I had intended to keep it had it survived,” he said, adding that the kid died at about 5pm on Friday.
